Places to Visit Outside Chalon-sur-Saone
The city of Dijon, famous the world over for its pungent mustard, is a 44-mile drive north from Chalon-sur-Saone. The city has a large number of churches covering different architectural styles. Of particular interest to visitors is the crypt of St. Benignus Cathedral, which is over 1,000 years old. Dijon also has some excellent museums, including the Musee des Beaux-Arts, which is part of the Ducal Palace Complex. Lyon is 80 miles south of Chalon-sur-Saone. Of particular note are the city's Roman ruins, including the amphitheatre, which is open to visitors. Lyon also has a number of interesting 14th and 15th century churches, as well as buildings from the Bourbon period.
